Kelly Gigot
Kelly has spent a great deal of time working on matters financial, so it seemed only natural that he would eventually end up as Treasurer for Council 10243 of the Knights of Columbus. He was approached about membership by Dave Whitton a few years ago at a time when he admits he knew almost nothing about the KC's. Yet, he moved along rather quickly, and was elected Treasurer in June of 1992. He was also appointed to the Steering Committee in December of 1992.
Kelly got involved in the Knights because he was looking for some means of being more involved in the Church and the community. He is particularly drawn to the Knights because of their reputation of being a charitable organization. He feels that being a part of the Knights is a great experience because of the camaraderie and the services that the Knights perform for the parish and for the community at large.
When asked about his most memorable experience with the Knights, he responds without hesitation, "The Younkers Sale". He feels that the involvement of the KC's in that event is a special niche that the Knights have found and he really enjoyed the experience of selling the donuts and coffee to the many people who were there. He also remembers Fr. Al reporting the unfortunate experience of wrecking one of the coffee pots.
Kelly is the Director of Accounting and Reimbursement at St. Vincent Hospital, a position he took in December of 1991. Prior to that he was involved with internal auditing at St. Vincent; before that he worked for Associated Bank Corp. In his current position he supervises payroll and accounts payable and sees some 450 bills go through each week, not to mention a bi-weekly payroll for 2200 employees. He figures he spends about eight hours a month on KC matters, including the monthly meetings of the Council and Steering Committee.
A native of Algoma, Kelly came to the Green Bay area when he was twelve. He and his family have been a part of St. Bernard Parish for about nine years now. He and his wife, Ginny (Virginia) have three children at St. Bernard School. Ginny is quite involved in the school, coordinating the computer program and working with the Cub Food receipts. Kelly also serves as an usher at St. Bernard.
He sees himself as a quiet, low-key type; "Recruiting isn't my bag". His service to the fraternity is measured in the immense amount of behind-the-scenes work that the treasurer finds himself involved in. He enjoys the work he does with the Knights--and he is certainly well qualified for it.
