Ken Delcore

Because Ken is a teacher who often has to do a Monday night class, getting him into the Knights of Columbus through the First Degree was a much lengthier process than the Council usually has to deal with.  That Monday night commitment has also caused him to miss some of the Council meetings, but he tries to be as faithful as he can when he has the evening free.  In addition to the Council meetings he is able to attend, he took part in a KC golf tournament recently and also came through the Second and Third Degree exemplification this past October. Shortly after Ken made the First Degree he brought another member to the Council (Dan Ortscheid).  That was enough to earn the title Knight of the Month for July of 1997, just two months after himself making the First Degree.  Though the acknowledgment surprised him, it was recognition of  someone who had made a commitment to the Council.

It was Scott Rebman, who lives near Ken, who began talking to him about the Knights and ended up bringing him to the Council.  Ken had been looking for some means of getting a bit more involved in the community.  He experiences some of that involvement in his job, “but I get paid for that.”  Based on what Scott had been telling him, he thought the Knights sounded like a pretty good organization and he made the decision to get involved. If it were not for those Monday night classes, he might have been involved a great deal sooner.

A native of the Luxemburg area, Ken has moved around a great deal.  After a course of study in Engineering at UW-Platteville, he went for further study in Heating and Air at UW-LaCrosse.  After that he went to Indianapolis on a job-related move, and was eventually transferred to Louisville.  While there, he was contacted by a ‘headhunter’ who lured him to a job in LaCrosse.  Unfortunately he had a hard time getting along with his boss there.  As fate would have it, he happened to be in Northeastern Wisconsin to visit his folks and noticed an ad in the newspaper for instructors at Northeast Wisconsin Technical College, where he has been for about five years now.

Ken feels called to give as much as he can to his chosen profession and he estimates that he spends 10-12 hours a day on school-related matters.  The rest is for the family.  He’s taught classes in Heating, Refrigeration, Heating and Air Conditioning Design and usually does the advanced level classes.  In the few hours of free time that he manages to find he especially enjoys golf, scuba diving and snowmobiling, as well as hunting, volleyball, skiing and fishing.  He’s always looking for fellow scuba divers, and usually manages to find the time to practice that sport in Florida.  He and his wife, Jane have been married just seven months now.  He sees something special in the Knights, as evidenced by his bringing another member aboard just after he came in.  We look forward to his continued presence as a part of Council 10243.
