Randy Barrett

Exactly how Randy became a part of the Knights is something of a mystery.  He recalls talking with Darrell Johnson about getting involved at one point, and eventually was contacted and proposed for membership by Fr. Al, but what happened between those two contacts is something no one seems quite sure of.  Randy's impression of the Knights to that point was his recollection of the Fourth Degree men in his native town of Luxemburg--pretty much limited to ceremonial functions, though he was aware that the organization was a brotherhood as well.

Randy made the First Degree in one of the exemplifications held at St. Bernard.   He sees the completion of the Third Degree as one of his most memorable experiences with the Knights, an experience that brought together and made sense of the lessons of First and Second Degree.  He is seriously considering taking part in the Fourth Degree scheduled for next April.  He made the First Degree at a time when he wondered what sort of time commitment his involvement would entail.  While he has never hesitated to get involved in things, he does try to keep his time prioritized.  Perhaps that concern for time makes him a very appropriate person to do something he has often done for the Council--make calls for activity workers.  He recalls making contacts for the Pancake/Porkie breakfast last year and, with Aaron Naze, made the contacts for the recent Cub Food Stand.

Recently elected to the office of Chancellor, he hopes to get involved somehow in membership.  Randy points out that the Council should easily be able to support double its current membership, and he hopes to see some means of drawing recruits through current men who are involved in the life of the Council.  He also would like to see the publicity and public relations of the Council continue to be strongly supported, something that might be helped by working with brothers who have marketing experience.  While Randy enjoys being involved in activity of the Council, he feels equally comfortable being involved in the planning and organization of the Council's life and believes he will serve well as an officer.

Randy and his wife, Becky, were "high-school sweethearts" at Luxemburg/Casco High School and recently celebrated their 15th wedding anniversary.  They have been in the St. Bernard area for about seven years now and have two children, Aaron (11) and Kimberly (8).  He works as manager of Employee Benefits at Warren Insurance Group, and in his free time he is involved in Little League coaching.  He occasionally finds time to relax by golfing, and he especially appreciates any activity that supports "down-time with the family".
