Karl Schroeder
So it was Sunday evening, April 27th, the day that the State Convention in Appleton had wrapped up a few hours earlier. Karl was at home and the telephone rang--Raffle Chairman Leon Janowski calling to congratulate him. Since Karl hadn't gotten an official call yet, Leon didn't think it was his place to spill the beans. A bit later another call came, apparently from Colorado. Karl thought it was just another telemarketer, but it turned out being that official call, informing him that he won the fifth prize of $5000 in the State Charity Raffle.Back around 1995 Karl was looking for some way of getting a bit more involved in the community, and he wasn't sure what direction to go. Larry Zambrowicz suggested he check out the Knights of Columbus and Karl ended up joining Council 617 on Green Bay's west side, advancing in time through the Third Degree. Though he didn't know a lot about the Knights, both his grandfathers were members. While he remembers many members of Council 617, he was looking for a Council that was more active in the community and at the urging of Mike Vanden Busch, he transferred to Council 10243 about two years ago. In the time that he has been with us he has taken part in several activities including brat fries and Tootsie Roll drives.
Karl is a native of the Green Bay area, having been raised in the area and attending East DePere High School. After graduation from Marquette University in 1987 he started to feel something drawing him to the life of a 'computer geek.' He is presently a self-employed software designer, spending a lot of time designing computer programs for small businesses. He formed a company, KS Computing, Inc., about ten years ago and is spending a lot of time out of the office.
In some of the free time he has, he enjoys hunting and fishing and spending time on his Harley. He became interested in motorcycling about seven years ago and about two years ago became the owner of a Harley Davidson Wide Glide. Since then he's taken part in several Harley-sponsored activities, including rides for the company's designated charity, Muscular Dystrophy Association. As a member of St. Joseph Parish a few years ago, he worked with then-pastor Father Stan Browne helping to bring the parish into the computer age. He also served on the parish Finance Committee. Karl is currently a member of St. Agnes Parish.
He has a brother in the area and two sisters in Chicago, and enjoys the opportunity to visit his family. He also enjoys traveling when he has the chance and a few years ago visited such places as Rome and Florence. We are happy to have him as a part of the Council 10243 family and we hope his win in the raffle will be the start of a streak of luck.
