MINISTRIES

PARISH LIFE GROUPS
Worship & Spiritual Life Committee
Work with ordained leadership to promote the spiritual health of the parish.
Plan parish celebration of liturgical seasons. Time Commitment: One and
one-half hours per month, September through May.
Eucharistic Minister
Distribute Holy Communion at Mass. Training provided. Time
Commitment: Two times per month.
Eucharistic Minister to Bornemann
Nursing
Home
Distribute Holy Communion to the residents and guests of
Bornemann Nursing Home. Training provided. Time Commitment: Once every
six weeks.
In-Home Communion Distribution
Bring Holy Communion to homebound parishioners, include
prayer and short visit. Training provided. time commitment: As needed.
Altar Linens
Collect and launder the altar linens used the previous week. Time Commitment:
One hour, three to four times a year.
Minister of the Word
Proclaim the word of God by reading the scriptures at Mass or other
services. Training provided. Time Commitment: Once per month throughout the
year.
Minister of Hospitality
Welcome worshipers at Mass and other services. Greet
people, locate seats. Take collection, usher people to Holy Communion,
distribute bulletins, tidy and secure the church. Training provided. Time
Commitment: Twice per month throughout the year.
Altar
Servers
Assist the priest at Mass or other services. Training is
provided. Time Commitment: One to two times per month throughout the
year.
Arts
and Environment
Assist the
decoration of Church according to season throughout the year. Time commitment:
Several hours per year.
Cantor
Lead the sung prayer of the community at liturgy. Utilize
skills to sing the responsorial psalm. Training is provided. Time Commitment:
As desired.
Accompanist/Instrumentalist
Accompany cantors with organ, piano, or guitar.
Instrumentalists support cantors and accompanists with counter melodies and
harmonies on flute, oboe, trumpet, etc. Audition required. Time Commitment: As
desired.
Voices In Praise Choir
Lead the people in singing praise with contemporary and traditional music at 9:30
Mass. Time Commitment: Rehearse Thursdays, 7:00-8:30 pm. September through May.
Three Masses per month.
Prayer Groups
Hearts of My People: Discover how to use the gifts
of the Holy Spirit received in Confirmation through prayer, song and
scripture. time Commitment: Every Tuesday, 9:00 am in the Chapel.
Family Prayer Night: Pray for peace, religious conversion and the end
of abortion. Time Commitment: Tuesday nights, 7:00-8:00 pm.
St. Monica's Telephone Prayer Chain: Join a parish group that forms a
prayer chain and prays for petitions as requested by the parish community.
Time Commitment: As requested.
Prayer for Children: Prayers of praise, thanksgiving and petition,
revolving around families and children. time Commitment: Meet Monday mornings
throughout the school year.
Returning Catholics
Minister to Catholics who have been away from the Church.
Support their journey back to the church. Time Commitment: Fall and Lent,
thirteen hours two times per year.
YOUTH
MINISTRY
Chaperone: Minister to the youth on an event-event
basis. time Commitment: Events range from two hour activities to week-long
trips.
Small Group Facilitator for High School Faith Formation: Minister to
the youth as a small group leader during the religious education program
currently held on Sunday evenings after the 6:30 pm Mass. the main
responsibility is to be open to share yourself and your faith with the young
people as you facilitate group discussion.
Confirmation Small Group Leader: Minister to the youth as a small group
leader during the Confirmation sessions currently held on Wednesday
evenings.
Retreat Leader: Minister to the youth as a small group leader on
various retreats offered. Retreats range from short evenings of reflection to
day-long retreats to overnight Confirmation retreats.
Social Concerns Committee
Address the social justice concerns of the parish,
community and world. Offer financial assistance, advocacy and support to those
in need. Time Commitment: Two hours per month, September through May.
St. Vincent de Paul
Through this international Catholic organization of lay
persons, person to person assistance is offered to the poor and suffering in a
spirit of justice and charity. Time Commitment: As able.
Respect Life Committee
Help raise the parish consciousness in all areas regarding
the dignity and holiness of life from birth to time of death. Time Commitment:
As needed throughout the year.
NEW Community Shelter
Prepare and/or serve food to the homeless shelter. Meal
prepared eight times a year. Time Commitment: As able. .
Visiting
Parishioners in Extended Care Facility
Visit parishioners in extended care facility on regular
basis. Training provided when requested. Time Commitment: One time per month
throughout the year.
Funeral Dinners
Help serve a funeral meal for parishioner's families,
relatives, neighbors and friends. Time Commitment: Three hours per funeral
dinner throughout the year.
Elizabeth Ministry
Support and encourage women before and after the birth of a
child. Time Commitment: As Needed.
Health
Ministry
Work with the parish
nurse to promote health and wellness by assisting with blood pressure
screenings, educational offerings, respite care, etc. Time Commitment: As
desired.
Transportation
Provide transportation
for parishioners for Mass, shopping, doctor appointments, etc. Time
Commitment: As needed.
Board of Education
As an elected member, oversee parish education activities
of St. Bernard Day School, and Religious Education of children and adults. Time
Commitment: One and one-half hours every month.
St. Bernard Day
School
Provide assistance to school staff to meet the total
educational needs of children from kindergarten through eighth grade. Consider
spiritual, academic, emotional, physical and social needs in a faith-filled
environment. Time Commitment: As needed.
P.A.C.E. (Parents Actively Concerned in Education)
Provide educational benefits for the parish adults,
students and teachers. Membership by all parents is strongly encouraged. Time
Commitment: Throughout the school year.
Religion Education Catechist
Teach a group of students in Grades K-8. Training, lesson
plans, materials and guidance provided. Time Commitment: Kindergarten six times
in fall and spring. Grades 1-6, one hour weekly for approximately 25 classes.
Grades 7 and 8, one and one-half hours for approximately 25 classes.
Religion Education Teacher Aide
Assist the Catechist by taking attendance, handing out
materials, and helping maintain discipline. Time Commitment: During classes as
listed above under Catechist.
RCIA
Team
Work with the coordinator to support individuals as they
prepare for full membership in the Catholic Church. Help plan and attend
classes. Time Commitment: 8-10 hours per month from September until
May.
Adult Education
Catechist
For anyone interested in an in-depth look at their Catholic
faith and excited about sharing it with others in the parish. Activities may
include depending on one's time and interest: attend trainings, teaching,
leading small faith sharing groups or Bible study and assist with various
adult education activities. Time Commitment: 2-10 hours per month, depending
on your time and interest.
Bible Study
for Adults
Study and reflect on the Bible. Offers beginning and
advanced levels. Time Commitment: One to two hours a week.
Baptism
Preparation
Provide classes for parents prior to their children's
baptism and assist the presider at the Baptism ceremony. Time Commitment: Four
hours, two times over eleven months.
FOCUS
(Marriage Preparation Program)
Assist couples planning to be married with communication
skills, which will enable them to address various marriage issues. Time
Commitment: Training by diocese two times a year.
Parish Council
The central coordinating body of the parish, which serves
in an advisory and consultative role to the Pastor. Consists of elected and
selected members of the parish and the pastor and parochial vicar. Time
Commitment: July through June, two hours every month.
Finance
Committee
Oversees the financial management, administration and
maintenance of the parish. Time Commitment: July through June, two hours every
month.
Building and Grounds Committee
Utilize knowledge and experience of construction and
related fields to maintain the parish buildings and grounds. Help with spring
and fall clean-up. Time Commitment: As needed.
Altar and Rosary Society
Women who support the parish with prayer, service, and
financial sponsorship. Major commitment is the maintenance of the sanctuary,
including altar linens, bread and wine.
Holy Name Society
Group of men who keep the Lord's name Holy, financially
assist church programs, and visit the sick.
Athletic Club
Support St. Bernard athletic programs. Provide playground
equipment supplies and assist with physical education needs.
Knights of Columbus
Dedicated to living out values of being a Catholic, this
fraternal service organization is involved in activities to benefit the Church
and it's people. (Local council #10243.)
Forever Young Group
Senior parish members promote spiritual growth and
companionship through social interactions and presentations appropriate to
their interests.
Sunday Morning Child Care
Provide childcare on Sundays during 9:30 am Mass. Time
Commitment: One and one-half hours three to four times a year.
Boy Scouts & Cub
Scouts
Sponsored by the Holy Name Society of St. Bernard, Cub Scouts is open to boys in
Grades 1-5 to promote habits of good citizenship, sportsmanship, and duty to God and
family. Parent and family participation is highly encouraged. Boys attend weekly den
meetings during the school year; pack meets monthly.
Lac Baie Girl Scouts
Open to girls in Grades K-12, Girl Scouting helps girls develop self-esteem and
leadership skills. Leaders assist girls in planning activities geared toward their
physical and emotional readiness.
Parish
Office Assistance
Assist office staff with bulk mailing projects, filing and
record keeping. Time Commitment: As needed, according to availability.
Weekend
Collection Counters
Count the Joyful Giving Offerings on Monday mornings at
the parish office. Time Commitment: One and one-half hours, 8:00-9:30 am.
