Dave Sinkula

It was a few years ago that Dave was looking for some way to align himself with some men’s group in the Church in order to deepen his commitment to the faith.  Though there were a couple of Knights of Columbus in his family, he didn’t give that particular organization any special thought until Fr. Al started talking to him about becoming a part of the fraternity.  Though his job keeps him quite busy and on the road a lot, he has managed to be a part of the Cub food stands just about every year, and, at the invitation of Chuck Rademacher, Dave and his wife Sherry served as judges of the Respect Life Essay Contest a year or two ago.

Dave started working for what at the time was Larsen Foods just after getting discharged from the service in 1973.  Since 1985 the company has been a part of Dean Foods and the local plant is Dean Foods Vegetable Co.  Dave’s current position is that of “Marketing Director-Birdseye.”  In his job he spends a lot of time traveling since he needs to be aware of what’s going on with his product and with the competition across the country.  He often goes to San Francisco for a couple of days since that it where the ad agency is located; he enjoys the time out there because of the culturally diverse population of the city.  An average day, if there is such a thing, finds him discharging the duties of a general manager--dealing with checking promotions, package design, product development and in general managing the sale of the products.  Prior to being promoted to Birdseye, he spent four years working as Marketing Director for Freshlike.  He also spends time concerning himself with two very important numbers--Volume Commitment and Profit Commitment.

As a hobby, he likes to rebuild and refinish furniture for family and friends, and this gives him the opportunity to check out a lot of auctions looking for ‘raw materials.’  He also enjoys working out at the Bellin Center, walking and boating and spending time at their cottage.  Though he hunted for all of his youth, he’s left that particular aspect of his life behind.  Dave and Sherry have been married since February of 1969 and have two sons--David and Steven.  Dave also served on St. Bernard Finance Committee and was quite involved in the Building Committee at the time of the building of the new church.  He reflects that there was so much of a time commitment on this latter committee that it became another full time job.  He also subs as a Eucharistic Minister and a Hospitality Minister.
