Dave Whitton

If there is a single word that can describe Dave, that word has to be "involved".   In the short history of Council 10243, few people have been as active as Dave, not only in the work of the Knights of Columbus, but all-around.  He joined the Knights at the invitation of Dave Tlachac and quickly got involved in activities of the brotherhood.  Dave missed being a charter member of the Council by just one month, being read in at the second meeting of the Council in February of 1990.  He was appointed Membership Chairman in April of 1991 and was able to guide the recruiting efforts of the Council during what was to be a time of considerable growth.  Several awards for membership increases were received by the Council during his term.  Dave also was one of the original ten members of the Steering Committee and currently holds the office of Recorder as well as serving as Director of Community activities.  Besides all that, the time seemed to be ripe for him to pursue the Fourth Degree, which he did in Appleton this past April.

Dave recalls his parents being involved in many activities, so it only seemed natural for him to be the kind of person who likes involvement as well.  He doesn't see the sense of being a part of any organization unless you really take part in what it is all about.  "I can't be a member of the Knights just so I can put it on a resume or something.  I have to be involved."  Dave saw the Knights as an opportunity to do some charitable work as well as to experience fraternity, and he makes the time for the Knights in his usually busy schedule.  "A lot of guys say they're too busy to get involved.  But anyone can squeeze in an hour or two a month to be a part of the Knights."  It is hard to think of activities of the Council that Dave hasn't played some part in.

Dave works in sales for DCSE (Distributors Construction Supply and Equipment) and spends a lot of time dealing with clients.  That's something near to the heart of the "people-person" that he is, someone Fr. Al called a 'compulsive introducer'.

He's a native of Waukegan, Illinois and came to St. Norbert in 1968 "and never went back".  Dave and his wife, Betsy, are supporters of the arts, being associated with the Green Bay Arts Council as well as supporting a number of artistic undertakings in the area.  In his free time, he enjoys snow skiing, boating and golf.  They are members of St. Bernard Parish and have two children, Matt and Kristin.  Both Dave and Betsy are very much a part of the ministerial the life of the parish; Dave serving as an usher and Betsy being with the choir.  They also are past presidents of P.A.C.E. and Dave is currently the president of the St. Bernard Athletic Club.
