Fr. Mike Seis

Fr. Mike became involved with the Knights of Columbus for reasons which, as he now looks back on them, might not have been the purest: “I was interested in the insurance.”  He made First Degree some seven or eight years ago at Nativity Parish in Ashwaubenon, though at the time he did not look toward any more involvement with that Council or with the Knights as a whole.

A native of Antigo, Mike is the youngest of five children.  He did his college work at Silver Lake College and went to seminary at St. Paul, Minnesota.  Upon completion of his studies he was ordained to the priesthood for the Diocese of Green Bay and came to minister as Parochial Vicar (Associate Pastor) at St. Bernard as his first assignment after ordination in 1993.

Since coming to St. Bernard, his involvement in the Knights has increased somewhat--he completed Second and Third Degree at DePere with a number of other men of the Council two years ago and shortly thereafter attended the exemplification of the Fourth Degree in Appleton.  Fr. Mike assumed the office of Chaplain when Fr. Al Lis resigned in July of 1994 and has been a part of some of the activities of the Council since then, including food stands.  He has contributed some columns to the NEWSLETTER and manages to get to meetings occasionally and support the Council in that manner.  He also attended the Fourth Degree Exemplification this past year in Green Bay and joined with the many brothers who were there for Mass and dinner as well.

He is happy to be involved in the Knights, an organizations which he describes as “a good outfit” and he notes the charitable efforts of the Knights and especially the many programs of our Council.  Fr. Mike was instrumental in getting the Council interested in supporting some seminarians from the Diocese of Green Bay as a part of our response to the theme “In Solidarity With Our Priests.”  He takes the opportunity to encourage interest in the Knights with new parishioners he comes in contact with, and is happy to be involved in such “behind the scenes” recruiting.

Aside from the Knights, he also serves as secretary of the Presbyteral Council (Priests’ Senate) for the Diocese of Green Bay and will retain that office for one more year.  He was also recently appointed by the Bishop as Chaplain of the Port of Green Bay, which involves visiting ships docked here and ministering to the needs of the crews.  He is also a member of the Board of Directors of Legal Services of Northeast Wisconsin.  For relaxation, he enjoys reading, playing golf and going to movies.
