Pete Birdsall
It was shortly after Ken Delcore became a part of the Knights that he surprised many by so quickly looking for other candidates. He had been after Pete for a time, and there was a connection since their wives worked together at Denmark Elementary. While he admits being talked into the First Degree, Pete finds the Knights to be “a cool organization” and reflects that as one gets older and wiser, one tends to realize what is really important. For him, becoming a part of the Knights of Columbus seemed to be the right move. He also feels it is important to teach our children by example, since they will tend to model themselves after parents and other adults. Being involved in the activities of the Knights seemed to be a good move in that regard. He advanced through Second and Third Degree this past October, the only member of Council 10243 to take part in the exemplifications.
Pete has been working for the past fifteen years at Milprint, a major manufacturer of flexible packaging. Anyone who’s torn the label off of a Hershey or Nestlé candy bar may very well have noticed his handiwork. He started at entry level and has risen to his current position of department manager, a post he’s held for eight years now. An average day finds him involved in dealing with a variety of levels of people as well as taking part in production meetings and much of the administrative matters that come with the job. He also finds he spends a lot of time handling ‘flashfires’ and juggling his priorities.
Originally from Algoma, Pete moved around a lot due to his dad’s position with US Plywood. He went to Edison School in Green Bay and spent two years at Preble, but he’s also lived in Atlanta and Michigan. He finished college at the University of Georgia, about an hour out of Atlanta.
He and his wife, Ann, have been married for fourteen years now and are the parents of nine year old twin boys. They are “sport nuts” and, like so many others, they are especially nuts about the Packers. Pete tries to stay involved and active in the busy lives of his family and has taken on some coaching responsibilities. He also enjoys woodworking, hunting, golf and volleyball. In his rather brief time with the Knights of Columbus he has been to several meetings and has taken part in the food stands and the booyah projects.
