Rick Pigeon

Being one of the few members of Council 10243 who happens to be single can be a real disadvantage.  Recently while serving as a lector at St. Bernard one Sunday, the new Vocation Director of the Diocese (Fr. Doug LeCapitain) tried his luck and asked Rick if he might be interested in a different line of work.  Actually, Rick is quite happy with what he’s doing, and as far as being single goes, he says, “I’m working on it.”

Rick is a native of New Franken and grew up in St. Kilian Parish.  There, in his teen-age years, he got to know Fr. Jim Putman who was serving as pastor.  It was an interesting experience for Rick, since to that time he says that he sometimes looked at priests as “not human.”  Fr. Putman, who died a few years back, was ‘down to earth’ and had quite an influence on Rick’s life.  That influence contributed to the fact that Rick’s faith is very important to him and also explains why he remained a part of St. Kilian for quite some time after moving to Green Bay.  In his time at New Franken, Rick served as a lector and as a member of the Parish Council.  He has carried his lectoring skills to St. Bernard.

As with many other members of Council 10243, it was Dave Tlachac who recruited Rick for the Knights.  Prior to that he had little exposure to the Knights--he knew it was a ‘religious men’s organization’ but that was about all.  There were not too many Knights around St. Kilian, though there were some at nearby Luxemburg.  Rick recalls Dave contacting him several times before successfully signing him up.  Although he made Third Degree last September, he hasn’t found a lot of time to get involved in meetings or many of the activities of the Council.  That, just like his bachelor status, is something else he’s working on, and he hopes to get a bit more involved in the future.

Rick works as Director of Product Development for AIRADIGM Communications in Little Chute, a new, developing company specializing in personal communication systems.  He was employee number four, and feels good to be a part of something fresh and new, along with the challenges it brings.  His average work day begins at 7:30 in the morning and he spends a great deal of time in meetings, as the company is still in the “start up mode” and things seem to change week to week.  He looks forward to the growth and continuing development of the company and to the opportunity to spend a little time in product demonstrations and getting to know clients.

The third of six children in his family, Rick feels fortunate to have most of his family living in the New Franken area.  He also enjoys the opportunity to put in some time on his parents’ dairy farm on occasion.  He attended Luxemburg-Casco High School and is a 1987 graduate of UW-Green Bay with a business degree.  Though the business keeps him quite busy, he enjoys boating and water skiing in the summer and appreciates an occasional game of volleyball.  We look forward to getting to know him as one of the newest Third Degree members of Council 10243.
