Rick Talachac

If the Knights of our Council ever decided to open a tavern the role of bartender may already be filled.  Rick's parents own a bar in Luxemburg and he is sometimes found helping in that capacity.

Rick got involved in the Knights of Columbus a few years back at the invitation of his cousin, Dave Tlachac, who is responsible for quite a few of the current members of Council 10243.  Rick really didn't know too much about the Knights, but he was aware of some of the community related activities that the Knights were involved in.  He remembers the Punt, Pass & Kick competition from "way back" and served as chair of that activity after he got involved in the Council.  Not quite a Charter member, he recalls making First Degree a few months after the Council was organized, so he's been in almost since the beginning.  At the time he joined the Council, he didn't know too many people, and being involved was one means of expanding his circle of acquaintances.  Rick took a deep interest in the workings of the Council and was elected Trustee in May of 1991.  Rick served in that capacity for almost two years of a three year term, accepting an appointment as Financial Secretary in April of 1993 when Dan McLaughlin's term expired.  As far as his future plans as an officer, he says that step is "way, far away".  Asked about his current position, Rick replied that the least enjoyable part of the office is "procedures"--the paperwork never seems to end.  On the other hand, it has enabled him to meet a lot of men of the Council and that has certainly outweighed any negatives.  Rick is still learning some of the intricacies of the role of Financial Secretary, and he definitely appreciates Dan McLaughlin spending a lot of time with him going over the things that he is supposed to do.  He does hope, in time, to introduce computerization to his paperwork.

Though he sometimes finds it a challenge to sit down and do the work, he does find himself involved in a number of Council activities.  He recalls taking part in the Parish Clean-Up at St. Bernard last year and appreciated the opportunity to work with people from many different organizations active in the parish.  He also cites the Degree send-offs and Marriage Anniversary Recognition as important activities of the Council.  Rick also feels the Council needs to look seriously at the number of activities that it is involved in, wondering if it might just be a little too much.

Originally from Luxemburg, Rick came to Green Bay around the time of his marriage, just over nine years ago.  They joined St. Bernard after looking for a Church.  At the time his wife worked in Luxemburg and he worked in Appleton and Green Bay seemed like a sort of half-way point.  Rick currently works as a buyer at Valley Plating and Fabricating.  He and his wife, Nancy, have three children--Eric, Lynessa and Matthew.  When he's not working on KC matters or tending bar, he likes fishing and golfing.
