Stan Waslowski

Stan became a part of the Knights in a way that people on the Membership Committee don't like to acknowledge.  Membership people continually talk about personal contact and reaching out to prospective members, but it was Stan who first signed up as an interested person at the St. Bernard Activity fair.  Soon after, Richard Rebman called on him to talk about the Knights.  Stan made First Degree in March of 1992 and Third Degree the following month.

Stan was drawn to the Knights by a number of factors.  Observing the Knights of Council 10243 in action, he appreciated the emphasis on family involvement in activities and how the guys seemed to really enjoy working together.  "All the Knights are family men, but I think family extends beyond our own family.  We're here for one another and for the Church."  Soon after becoming involved in the Knights, Stan participated in the Tootsie Roll Drive in April of 1992.  He remembers how cold it was standing at Kohl's with Harris Charles.  Other memories of the Knights involve cooking up hamburgers at about 9:00 PM one evening after a meeting.  He also really learned how to cook brats by helping out in the tent at the Parish Picnic.  "You sometimes do odd things in the Knights", he observes.

He appreciates the opportunity to choose involvement in KC activities, and he especially likes the range of things the Knights are involved in--working with children, disadvantaged, and others.  "I'm glad to see the Knights aren't confined to one area".  He also is happy to see the Knights "Spreading Joy"--raising funds for reasons as diverse as Parish Educational Endowment to Special Olympics.  Newsletters have helped to keep him informed on the activities that the Council is involved in, especially when refereeing basketball games keeps him away from some meetings.

Devotion to Mary is an important part of Stan's life and he is pleased to see that in the Knights as well.  He appreciates the opportunity to pray the rosary together and he carries his KC rosary with him as well as others that have special meaning for him.

An accountant at Bellin Hospital for some fourteen years now, Stan and his wife, Bonnie, are members of St. Bernard Parish.  Stan helps out in the parish as a Eucharistic minister and Bonnie often serves as a musician.  They have two children, both at St. Bernard School.  In his "free" time, he's often involved refereeing High School JV games, though he prefers not to travel.  Summertime brings the opportunity to do a bit of golfing.  His time with the Knights has seen him participating in a number of activities, and he feels he's one who really likes to help out rather than have to organize things.  Certainly, his service has been a benefit to the Council and to the Knights in general.
