Tim Fliss
Though their last names are the same, Tim doesn't think there is any relation between him and Raphael Fliss Bishop of Superior. In fact, Tim is a fairly recent convert to the Catholic Faith, having gone through an RCIA program just about four years ago after coming from a Presbyterian family. He came to the Knights at the invitation of Tom Gauthier after being invited at the activity fair to check out the organization. He was quite impressed with his First Degree ceremony in January and went to Fond Du Lac for the Second and Third Degrees the following month. Those major Degrees not only made an impression on him, but he also left a lasting impression of the Degree team and other candidates and observers. In his brief time with the Knights he's also taken part in several activities including booyah and the Tootsie Roll drive. He's also been to several meetings and visited with the insurance representative, thus fulfilling most of the requirements for what will probably be the first of the new "Shining Armor" awards given to a member of Council 10243.A native of Lansing, Michigan, Tim started working for Schneider in North Carolina in 1990. His job transferred him to Green Bay in 1992 and he is now Vice President for Human Resources. He works with the senior leadership in setting direction for the company, looking to hire the necessary talent to sustain business through the long term, and needs to keep abreast of pay, benefits, training and the like. Prior to coming to Schneider, Tim spent six years in the US Army, leaving with the rank of Captain. A 1984 graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point, he spent several years in Germany where he met his wife, Kristen, who was teaching at an army base. He remembers the experience at West Point as exceptional, with concentration of the 'three legs of the stool--leadership, academics and athletics.' West Point brought a five year commitment to the military, and also Tim put his degree in Civil Engineering to good use in various projects in places like Guatemala and Honduras working on construction projects with the US Army Corps of Engineers.
Tim's wife, Kristen, is from Connecticut though he had to go the Germany to meet her. She spent some time teaching gifted children and is now employed as a full time wife and mother for their two children, Tanner (8) and Dana (5). Time with the family is a top priority for Tim and he serves as a Cub Scout leader for his son. When there's time to relax the family enjoys swimming, cookouts and occasional trips to places like Door County or Chicago, now that the children are old enough to appreciate them. Tim also like to snow ski and golf and he also gets to travel occasionally with the job, having spent six weeks in Europe last year. Another project recently completed was his MBA (Master of Business Administration) after six years of work at UW-Oshkosh. He received the degree in 2000.
Tim's enthusiasm for the Knights of Columbus is admirable and even though he has been with the Council a fairly short time he has made quite an impact on us. We look forward to getting to know him and his family more through our continued sharing in the service of God and the Church.
