SACRAMENTS

BAPTISM
Ordinarily, infant reception of the sacrament is at 12:30PM the first Sunday of every month. You need to contact the parish office 60 days before the desired date of the ceremony. Attendance at a Baptismal preparation session is required. Meetings are held the last Monday of the month at 7:00PM.

ADULT BAPTISM
We always welcome new members into the faith life at St. Bernard’s. Please call the parish office to receive more information on this process.

CONFIRMATION
Those who have reached their junior year in high school and anyone older are invited to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation. Immediate preparation for high school students begins in the fall of junior year culminating in the celebration of the sacrament in February. Candidates work closely with their sponsor or an adult confirmed, practicing, Catholic mentor.

ADULT CONFIRMATION
Adult confirmation involves individual consultation. There is a variety of options and times available for the adult candidate to consider, depending on an individual’s faith journey. Call the parish office to make an appointment.

FIRST COMMUNION
Preparation for the central sacrament of our faith takes place in the second grade. This preparation involves the parent as well as the child. The parents are all expected to attend the parent meetings, which are scheduled to clarify the role of the parent, the parish procedures and to distribute materials. The celebration of the Sacrament occurs in spring with a group celebration and individual celebration the following weekends. Your child should be enrolled in the St. Bernard Religion Education Program or at the St. Bernard Day School to receive all necessary information and preparation.

Adapted procedures for older children are available. Contact the Religious Education Department.

RECONCILIATION
Reconciliation (Confessions) are held the first Tuesday of every month from 6:00-7:00 p.m. and by appointment.
Special services are held during Advent and Lent.
We have a reconciliation room where penitents have the option of "face to face" reconciliation or the use of the traditional screen.

FIRST RECONCILIATION
A truly Christian preparation for the Sacrament begins at home in early childhood and continues to develop. A progressive catechizes of forgiveness is also an essential part of Catholic Education; fifth grade seems at present to be an appropriate time to celebrate this Sacrament. Parents are assisted in their part of the sacramental preparation through a scheduled meeting. This Sacrament is celebrated during Lent. Your child should be enrolled in the St. Bernard Religion Education Program or at St. Bernard Day School to receive all necessary information and preparation.

Adapted procedures for older children are available. Please contact the Religious Education Department for more information.

RCIA
The RCIA is the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults. The RCIA is a process in which adults desiring to grow in their faith-life and in their relationship to God journey together to become participating members in the Catholic Church.

The RCIA program is for:
1. Those who have never been baptized
2. Those who have been baptized in another faith and wish to become Catholic.
3. Those who were baptized Catholic but never received any religious formation or any of the other Sacraments.

Please call the Religious Education office for more information.
